implications. The students participated with vigour and also shared many

makes a man sociable and lovable. Miss Archie started the session with an
introduction that in a world like today’s , without being selfish and taking
care of ourselves, we cannot stand anywhere for ourselves. In a society that
deems selflessness as the ultimate form of kindness, we often allow our

This exactly is the definition of being selfless. Miss Amandeep stressed on the

Ms. Mohini came forward with the view that underprivileged women have no right to speak for themselves in this world, where the so called women empowerment is the buzz word. Ms. Manpreet remarked that the women belonging to the weaker sections can be termed as ‘doubly subaltern’ as they suffer on two accounts- first for being belonging to the underprivileged sections and secondly for being women. Ms. Baljeet expressed that Mahasweta Devi’s writings also show her concern for the tribes and their exploitation. only a page.”- St. Augustine

RELEVANCE OF THE RAPE OF THE LOCK IN THE PRESENT DAY WORLDApril 5, 2018
A group discussion was organised by the Department of English on April 5,2018 on the Relevance of The Rape of Lock in the Present Day World. It was an attempt by the postgraduate students to trace out the parallels of the 18th century social life with the present social scenario. Ms. Gunjan of MA-II started the discussion by sharing her views about The Rape Of Lock as a masterpiece of satirical poetry and as a mirror to the society of Pope’s age. She nicely elaborated how the poet indirectly hints at the hollowness, hypocrisy and love of fashions of the youth of that period. She came up with some similarities with present day world where craze for fashion and less concern for the moral values are the basic traits of majority of young men and women. Ms. Rupali, while participating in discussion, remarked that it is considered as a point of prestige to look ultra modern, to have pet dogs and move in high circles. Less weightage is given to the moral values and to the beauty of mind and spirit. The other students too came out with their arguments and opinions. It was agreed that there seems to be a revival of the18th century social life in 21st century.
