Library Orientation Programme

Library Orientation Programme was organised  for the new entrants at the beginning of the academic year.  This programme was conducted on 7th September 2022 under the supervision of Mr. Mastan Singh, Assistant Professor in English. Around 80 from  B.A I visited the library. The prime motive of this programme was to make the fresh students familiar with the library resources, service and rules. The students were very excited for this visit.  Librarian, Mr. Anoop, introduced the students about the various online sources for learning. He discussed various important websites for online books, magazines, research papers etc.  Librarian Mrs. Sandhya introduced the students about the various resources available in the college library. She also made the students aware about rules that should be followed in a library. At the end, the students raised many queries. All these queries were adequately answered by the librarians.  This visit was very beneficent to the students as they learned about many new online and offline resources of learning. This was a very informative visit. The students felt happy after getting useful information on various learning resources.














Buddy Group Activity

On 9th September 2022 , a seminar was organised under the Buddy Group activity by the Postgraduate Department of English of Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur.The topic of the seminar was "Life Does Not Rewind ,Say NO To Drugs". The purpose of this seminar was to make the youth aware  of the harmful effects of drugs. The seminar was conducted under the supervision of Mrs. Sapna Badhwar. She initiated the discussion by telling the junior buddies that drugs are ruining the very fabric of our society. When we talk about the prevailing scenario of Brain Drain to the countries like Canada ,New Zealand, Australia  etc,we find that the major reason for sending the youngsters away to these foreign shores is that the parents do not want their children to be spoiled because of the drugs.  She said that the youngsters easily fall  prey to the vendors and ruin not only their own lives but very fabric of our society.These drugs are taking their toll on they young lives . On this occasion  Miss Gurnoor Kaur, Miss Manisha Rani ,Miss Simran , Miss Manjeet and Miss Isha Kamboj expressed their views  through their speeches .After that the whole class was involved in this discussion during which the girls promised that they would become the brand ambassadors of buddy group by spreading the message in the society that everyone should shun the drugs as they are life threatening. The session ended with a thought in everyone's mind that I will be guiding at least one person so that our India once again stands tall with its head high.







Essay/Story Writing Competition 

Under the aegis of the Principal Dr. Sangeeta,  the Post Graduate Department of English, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur, organised a writing competition on the topic Good Always Triumphs Over Evil. The chief objective of this competition was to hone innovative and creative skills in the students. This competition was organised under  the supervision of Dr. Bhumida Sharma, HOD and Mr. Mastan Singh. The students from various departments of the college submitted their writings. The first position was bagged by Taranveer Kaur, MA I. Anmol Beri, BA II pocketed the second position. The third position was secured by Anmol Kaur, BA II.




JUST SAY NO TO DRUGS 

The department of English at DSCW organised a buddy group activity on 12th October, 2022 on the theme of Just Say No to Drugs. This activity was an effort to make the students aware about the ill effects of drug addiction. Under the guidance of the senior buddy Mr. Mastan Singh, four  junior Buddies viz  Simran Kamboj, Mandeep Kaur, Sanjot and Dimpal spoke on how this evil is spreading in India. The buddies, by sharing their experiences, pointed out that we may choose to take a drug because we like the way it makes us feel. We may think we can control how much and how often we should use it. But over time, drugs change how our brain works. Our brain is wired to make us want to repeat experiences that make us feel good. So we’re motivated to do them again. Mr. Mastan Singh  concluded that our mission is to create awareness among the masses to help the youngsters to develop mentally, physically and economically to live a peaceful and healthy life.








Tete-e-Tete with English

The Post Graduate Department of English organized an activity "Tete-e-Tete" to enhance the communication skills of the students on 07.11.2022 in the college auditorium. The activity was constituted under the guidance of Mrs. Rabia, Assistant Professor in English and Mrs. Anu Khera, Assistant Professor in English. In this event, the students from all the streams participated with great enthusiasm. The students gave power point presentations, speeches, and played the roles of interviewers interviewees. The teachers appreciated the students for their efforts and also pointed out their errors which can be eradicated by making some easy changes. The students listened to the observation of the teachers carefully and promised to adopt the measures . The event was a great success.







Maat Pita Santan Diwas 

The Post Graduate Department of English, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur, celebrated Maat Pita Santan Diwas on 20 January 2023 with great zeal and enthusiasm. The main objective of this celebration was to strengthen the bond of love between parents and children. The students of the college expressed their heartfelt feelings towards their parents. They also expressed their gratitude towards the parents by thanking them for every single sacrifice they made for them.









Online Quiz on How Well Do You Know India 

The Post Graduate Department of English, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur  Organised a quiz competition on 24th January, 2023. The topic of this competition was How Well Do You Know India. This competition was held to connect the students with the Indian Constitution. The students were very excited about the competition. A total of 80 students from various departments of the college  participated in this competition.  This competition was organised by Dr. Bhumida Sharma, HOD and Mrs. Rabia under the stewardship of the Principal, Dr. Sangeeta. The first position was pocketed by Parneet, BSc II and Blessy, BA II. The competition was a great success. 








Buddy Group Activity 

The Post Graduate Department of English, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur, organised a buddy group activity under the dynamic stewardship of Principal, Dr. Sangeeta. This activity was organised to spread awareness among the students about the ill effects of drug abuse on physical and mental health. This activity was organised under the supervision of senior buddy Mrs. Anu Khera. Around 50 students were present during this activity. The students shared their views on drug abuse. They talked about the causes of drug abuse among the youth. They also discussed the ways through which the youth can be taken out of this trap. At the end, the students raised many queries which were answered by the senior buddy.







Visit to a Blind Home 

The Post Graduate Department of English, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur organised a visit to blind home on 20 February, 2023. The chief objective of this visit   was to inculcate the feelings of empathy and integration among the students. The other motive of this motive was to make them aware about the needs of a special section of society.   A total of 50 students participated in this visit with great exuberance. The students were very excited about the visit. The students distributed many gifts,  biscuits, chocolates and juices among all the residents of the blind home. 





Seminar on Six Pillars of Character 

Post Graduate Department of English organized a seminar on Six Pillars of Charater on 28th February, 2023. The seminar was organized to raise awareness among students about the much-needed ethical and moral value. The students from various departments of the college participated in this seminar with great exuberance. All the six pillars of character- trustworthiness, respect, responsibilty, fairness, caring and citizenship- were discussed in detail. The students also shared their on various moral and ethical values. At the end, the students asked many questions and got satisfactory answers.














Buddy Group Activity

A slogan writing competition under buddy group activity  was organised by PG Department of English, Dev Samaj College for Women, Ferozepur on 1 March 2023.  This competition was conducted under the guidance of senior buddy Mrs. Anu Khera.The sole motive of this competition was to make the students aware about the ill-effects of substance use through their beautiful and creative handmade posters. Around 30 students from various classes enthusiastically participated in this competition. They expressed their meanings through different artworks.   









Webinar on Research Methodology

 

Post Graduate Department of English organized a webinar on Research Methodology  on 6th March, 2023 at 11:30 a.m. The sole motive of this webinar was to make the students aware about the basics of research methodology.   The students from various institutions actively participated in this webinar. The Resource Person for this webinar was Prof. Rana Nayar, Former Chairperson, P.G. Department of English, Panjab University, Chandigarh. The Resource Person spoke on  numerous aspects of research methodology and equipped the students with the basic knowledge of research methodology. At the end of the webinar, the students  raised many queries and got satisfactory answers.










Essay Writing Competition 

Post Graduate Department of English, under the dynamic leadership of Principal Dr. Sangeeta, organized a story writing competition on 9th March, 2023. The prime motive of this story writing competition was to enhance creative and innovative skills of the students. Around sixty students  from various departments participated in this competition with great enthusiasm. The first position was secured by Sunita Rani from BA I. The second position was bagged by Diya from BA I. The third position was pocketed by Blessy  from BA II. 






Buddy Group Activity 


The Post Graduate Department of English, Dev Samaj College for Women, under the dynamic leadership of Principal Dr. Sangeeta, organised a buddy group activity on 6th April, 2023. This activity was held under the supervision of senior buddy Mr. Mastan Singh.  The prime objective of this activity was to spread information among the students about the negative effects of drug abuse on mental and physical health.  The students discussed the reasons due to which the younger generation is getting addicted to drugs. More than 40 students actively participated in this activity. The students also discussed how drug abuse is swallowing the youth of Punjab. The students shared various ways that can be used to eradicate this scourge. At the end, the students asked many questions and got satisfactory answers.
